Default position
When you send a message to wxtx.info from your device, the message includes the current position of your device.
If your device is a Garmin, the coordinates look like this:
Joe Blow sent this message from: Lat 40.422263 Lon -73.948648
By default, we use these coordinates when we generate the report to send back to you, if that report needs to know your position.
Overriding your current position
If you want to use a custom position when requesting a report, send your request like so. First enter your report request, then the coordinates.
#DTW
#COORDS 38.66N 28.07W
The system can handle a variety of formats. Start with #coords or #coordinates.
#coords Lat 40.422263 Lon -73.948648
#coordinates 47.57107056249827, -52.74588021206811
#coords 40.422263N 73.948648W
#coordinates 40.422263S 73.948648E
#coords 12.345 -122.567
Use case
Let's say you're sailing, and you're 3 days away from the Azores. When you request #DTW for the coordinates of the Azores as in the example above, we'll send your custom coordinates to the weather service so you get the Daily Temperature and Wind report for the Azores.
Or maybe you're reading a book or listening to a podcast and coordinates are given. You could use #WHERE with #COORDS to find out what is at those coordinates.
If you have more use cases, please share them with us.
